Project Summary The project EVTIMA studies a new domain – effective search of conceptual patterns. It aims at finding out algorithms and technologies, which enable efficient processing of large conceptual resources. The project relies on an original and innovative idea for two-stage processing of conceptual information while searching conceptual patterns: to calculate off-line all possible conceptual patterns in the given domain and to compress them into a minimal acyclic finite state automaton with markers at the final states. The run-time processing is turned to looking-up in the automaton paths, which is done for linear time. In addition to the fundamental research, the project aims at the evaluation of the approach via an ambitious experiment with conceptual resources which are to be extracted automatically from medical texts. The first project stage starts with the design and planning of the experiment: how to extract structured representations from medical patient records. EVTIMA is supported by the Bulgarian National Science Fund under grant DO02-292/Dec. 2008 in the track IDEAS. The project duration is 36 months, by the end of 2011. Keywords:
