I am Professor in Computer Science and Director of the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
In June 2015 I was awarded by the Minister of Education and Science with the Big Award Pitagor for successful leadership of international projects |

My research interests are in the fields of:
Natural Language Processing (NLP) including Information Extraction from clinical texts,
Knowledge Acquisition, Representation, Processing, and Automatic Extraction esp. connected to NLP,
Big Data and Data Analytics,
Applications of Artificial Intelligence for smart society.

November 2018 - November 2021: Principal researcher and member of the Scientific Board of the National research programme eHealth.
March 2014 - February 2018: Member of the Management Committee of the ICT COST Action IC1307 iV&L Net - Integrating Vision and Language. (Bulgarian representative).
October 2012 - March 2016: Coordinator of AComIn "Advanced Computing for Innovation", a 3 MEuro grant with the European Commission, FP7 Capacity, Research potential (REGPOT-1). AComIn is a source of pride for the European Commission. In April 2017 AComIn won the Fourth Bulgarian Competition for Most Innovative Company and Best Innovative Project for 2016 organised by the Innovation and Technology Development Council with the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. AComIn was awarded a Diploma and a Plaque as the "Best Innovative Project for 2016" as well as a Honorary Diploma for innovative project of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
June 2014 - May 2016: Coordinator of grant DO1-192 with the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science, National Co-financing of the project AComIn "Advanced Computing for Innovation".
September 2012 - March 2015: Principal investigator in the project "Analysis and identification of dependencies in big data archives – applications for economic and technological analyses", grant BG161PO003-1.1.06-0023 of Operational Programme "Competitiveness".
2010 - 2014: Member of the Management Committee of the ICT COST Action IC1002 MUMIA - Multilingual and multifaceted interactive information access. (Bulgarian representative)
2010-2011: - Principal investigator in PSIP+, ICT Call 5 extension of the FP7 ICT project PSIP "Patient Safety through Intelligent Procedures in medication", grant 216130.
2009-2012: - Project Leader of EVTIMA "Efficient Search of Conceptual Patterns with Applications in Medical Informatics", grant DO-02-292 with the Bulgarian National Science Fund.
